Andrew Somerville

 

Andrew is currently completing a Masters degree in saxophone performance at Northwestern University in Chicago, where he is a student of the renowned saxophonist Dr Frederick L. Hemke. Previously Andrew studied with Kyle Horch and Martin Robertson at the Royal College of Music in London, where he was awarded the RCM Artist Diploma, and with Josef Pacewicz at the University of Glasgow and the RSAMD. Andrew’s studies have been funded by scholarships awarded by the BBC Performing Arts Fund, the Musician’s Benevolent Fund, the Martin Musical Scholarship Fund, the Wingate Foundation, the Caird Trust, the Scottish International Education trust and the EMI Music Sound Foundation.

As a recitalist Andrew has performed at the Royal Overseas League, and Camberwell arts Festival in London, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and the British Saxophone Congress.  In 2008 Andrew won the Computers in Personnel International Concerto competition, and as a result gave a critically acclaimed performance of Ibert’s Concertino da Camera with the Southbank Sinfonia at Cadogan Hall in London.  

In addition to his work with Sax Ecosse Andrew regularly performs with the Sirocco Saxophone Quartet, with whom he has performed at major London venues, including the Purcell Room in the 2009 Park Lane Group Young Artist’s Series.
